Transformative Journey to Bhutan – Yoga, Meditation & Spiritual Immersion

Embark on a 10-day immersive journey into the heart of Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom nestled in the Himalayas. This Sanskriti journey is an invitation to slow down and discover the country through yoga, meditation, the teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism, sacred monasteries, nature, and authentic encounters with Bhutanese culture. A Sacred Journey into the Heart of Bhutan

✨ Yoga, Meditation & Daily Practice

Begin your days with yoga and meditation practices surrounded by some of the Himalayas’ most pristine landscapes.

Throughout the journey, our practice will accompany our discovery of the country, helping us cultivate presence, inner stillness, and awareness.

✨ Immersion in Vajrayana Buddhism

Enter the spiritual world of Bhutan through its monasteries, temples, and deeply rooted living Buddhist traditions.

Meditation at Tango Monastery, butter lamp offerings, prayer flags, blessings, and participation in selected monastic prayers will allow us to approach this tradition not simply as visitors, but with respect, presence, and openness.

✨ Encounters & Bhutanese Culture

Discover Bhutan beyond its landscapes: share a meal at a traditional farmhouse, meet local families and villagers, learn about rural traditions, and experience wearing Bhutan’s national dress.

These encounters will offer a deeper understanding of a society that has chosen to place well-being and the preservation of nature and tradition at the heart of its development.

✨ The Himalayas as a Space for Practice

Forests, valleys, rivers, mountains, and monasteries become the natural setting for our retreat.

Mindful walking through the Phobjikha Valley, meditation overlooking the mountains, periods of silence, and our pilgrimage to Tiger’s Nest Monastery invite us to slow down and rediscover a quality of presence often lost in everyday life.

✨ An Inner Journey as Much as an Outer One

The itinerary has been intentionally designed at a pace that leaves space for silence, contemplation, journaling, and rest.

Our intention is not to “visit” as many places as possible, but to truly experience the places we travel through.

Bhutan thus becomes the setting for a deeper experience: an invitation to slow down, observe, and reconnect with what truly matters.

“I will carry this journey with me for the rest of my life — it helped me rebuild and rediscover myself.” – Karina

Itinerary

📅 Dates: October 8–17, 2027

📍 Starting and ending point: Paro, Bhutan

📍 Itinerary: Paro – Thimphu – Punakha – Gangtey / Phobjikha – Paro

👥 Group size: Limited to 12 participants

✈️ Welcome to Bhutan.

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our Bhutanese guide will welcome us before we begin our journey to Thimphu, the kingdom’s capital, taking in our first Himalayan landscapes along the way.

After settling in and taking some time to rest, we will visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to the takin, Bhutan’s unique national animal.

In the late afternoon, we will visit the majestic Tashichho Dzong, the administrative and religious heart of the capital, where monks gather for their prayers.

We will end our first day together with a welcome dinner.

🌙 Overnight in Thimphu – altitude: approx. 2,320 m

We will begin the day with a yoga and meditation practice, before heading to the starting point of our walk to Tango Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most important centers of meditation.

A beautiful forest trail will lead us to the monastery, where some of Bhutan’s great Buddhist masters have undertaken extended spiritual retreats.

Today’s highlights:

  • Mindful walk through the forest
  • Guided meditation at the monastery
  • Traditional butter lamp offering
  • Blessing ceremony
  • Discussion on Vajrayana Buddhism and meditation
  • Subject to the monastery’s approval, a meeting with the Head Monk

After our descent, we will visit the Folk Heritage Museum, followed by the spectacular Buddha Dordenma, an immense statue of the Buddha overlooking the Thimphu Valley.

The rest of the day will be free to explore the capital, journal, rest, or simply take time to integrate the day’s experiences.

🌙 Overnight in Thimphu

Our first true immersion into the spiritual heart of Bhutan.

After our morning practice, we will leave Thimphu and make our way towards Punakha, crossing the spectacular Dochula Pass at an altitude of 3,100 metres.

This iconic site is home to 108 chortens, surrounded by prayer flags fluttering in the wind. On clear days, the pass offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks.

Here, we will take part in a traditional prayer flag offering, symbolising peace, compassion, and blessings for all beings.

We will then descend into the lush Punakha Valley, where we will enjoy a picnic lunch beside the Mo Chhu River.

🌙 Overnight in Punakha – altitude: approx. 1,300 m

After our morning yoga practice, we will visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, considered one of the most beautiful dzongs in the kingdom.

We will then walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, before continuing to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which offers beautiful views across the valley.

Lunch will offer a more intimate experience of Bhutan: a traditional meal prepared at a local farmhouse, shared with our hosts.

We will discover their daily life, farming traditions, customs, and way of life.

The afternoon will be intentionally slower, with time for rest, meditation, silence, or journaling.

🌙 Overnight in Punakha

After our yoga practice, we will journey towards one of the most peaceful regions of our retreat: the magnificent Phobjikha Valley.

Along the way, we will admire Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, overlooking the confluence of the Punatsang Chhu and Dang Chhu rivers.

Upon arrival in Gangtey, we will settle into our lodge before enjoying a meditation overlooking the valley.

This day marks our gradual transition into a quieter, more contemplative part of the journey.

🌙 Overnight in Gangtey – altitude: approx. 3,000 m

🌿 An intentionally slower day.

After our sunrise yoga practice, we will set out on a meditative walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, in the heart of the pristine Phobjikha Valley.

We will then visit Gangtey Monastery and, depending on the monastery’s arrangements, take part in prayers and a meditation session.

We will also spend time meeting local villagers and learning about their daily lives, rural traditions, and the philosophy of Gross National Happiness, which is deeply associated with Bhutan.

The afternoon will be dedicated to a true personal retreat:

Silence • Reading • Meditation • Journaling • Contemplation • Rest

🌙 Overnight in Gangtey

A time to slow down deeply and simply be present with ourselves and the world around us.

After our morning practice, we will leave the Phobjikha Valley and make our way back towards Paro, travelling through the kingdom’s beautiful mountain landscapes.

The afternoon will be intentionally left free to rest and recover, while also preparing ourselves physically and inwardly for the following day’s pilgrimage.

We will come together again for an evening meditation.

🌙 Overnight in Paro – altitude: approx. 2,280 m

🐅 One of the highlights of our journey.

Today, we will set out for Taktsang – the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, spectacularly perched on a cliff at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres.

For the Bhutanese, Taktsang is far more than a spectacular landmark: above all, it is a sacred place and an important pilgrimage site.

We will therefore approach the ascent not simply as a hike, but as a meditative walk.

We will move at our own pace, taking time to breathe, contemplate the Himalayan landscapes, and experience the unique atmosphere of this sacred place.

Whenever possible, we will also receive a blessing inside the monastery.

After the descent, we will unwind with a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath, an ancient practice ideal for relaxing the body after this day of pilgrimage.

We will end the day with a peaceful evening meditation.

Our final full day will begin with a sunrise yoga practice, before visiting Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan.

We will take part in a traditional butter lamp offering, dedicated to wisdom, compassion, gratitude, and peace.

We will also have the opportunity to wear traditional Bhutanese clothing: the Gho for men and the Kira for women.

Depending on the schedule and conditions, we will visit the National Museum and Paro Dzong, or take an optional excursion to Chele La Pass, one of the highest motorable mountain passes in Bhutan.

We will conclude our journey together with:

  • A closing meditation
  • A circle of gratitude and integration
  • A cultural program featuring traditional Bhutanese music and dance
  • Our farewell dinner

🌙 Final night in Paro

🙏 One last moment together to honour the journey we have shared and allow the experience to settle before returning home.

We will begin our final morning with a last meditation together, followed by breakfast.

We will then transfer to Paro International Airport for your return flight.

We will leave the kingdom carrying with us the images of its mountains, valleys, monasteries, and prayer flags, but also something less visible: the inner space created during these ten days of practice, encounters, silence, and contemplation.

🕊️ The journey comes to an end. The experience continues.

Important information

A Travelling Retreat Through the Heart of Bhutan

This is not a retreat where we remain in one place. We will journey through several regions of Bhutan — Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, the Phobjikha Valley, and Paro — gradually discovering the many different facets of the country.

Yoga & Meditation

Yoga and meditation practices will accompany us throughout the journey.

The program may naturally be adapted according to travel times, weather conditions, monastery visits, and local circumstances.

In Gangtey in particular, yoga practices will be held outdoors whenever conditions allow.

A Spiritual & Cultural Immersion

Our intention is to experience Bhutan with a quality of presence that is different from that of a conventional sightseeing tour.

Temple visits, encounters, walks, ceremonies, and periods of silence are all an integral part of the experience.

A Reasonable Level of Physical Fitness Is Required

The journey includes several walks and takes place at altitude at certain times.

The pilgrimage to Tiger’s Nest is the most physically demanding part of the retreat, reaching an altitude of approximately 3,100 metres.

We therefore recommend being in good general health and comfortable walking for several hours at a moderate pace.

Accommodation

Throughout the journey, we will stay in selected 3-star hotels and lodges.

The standard rate includes accommodation in a shared double or twin room.

Single rooms may be requested for an additional supplement and are subject to availability.

“This journey will stay in my heart forever.” – Éric

What Our Clients Say

Audrey H.

A truly enriching stay in a warm family-owned yoga center with lots of passion and good energy. Sanskriti is a special place that brought calm and joy during my stay. I especially enjoyed the beautiful zen garden, bathing in the cold river and eating delicious Indian food.

Tom L.
